We are pleased to announce that we will be jointed by Arto Tienaho and Geoffrey Griffiths of Anxiety BC. The Anxiety Disorders Association of British Columbia is a non profit organization which was started in early spring of 1999 by a group of concerned consumers, family members, and professionals, who work to increase awareness about anxiety disorders; promote education of the general public, affected persons, and health care providers; and increase access to evidence-based resources and treatments. Their programs are focused on increasing awareness and promoting education and evidence-based treatments related to anxiety disorders.

Arto was born in Haida Gwaii and moved to Vancouver from Kitimat in Northern B.C in the early 80's and has worked in many aspects of the Aviation industry for more than 20 years. In that time he has gained experience by working on fixed wing aircraft as well as helicopters. His work also provided some interesting opportunities such as having chances to work for short durations in places like Alaska and as far as Australia. He has felt fortunate to have been able to hold a variety of positions from hands-on, to inspection, test, and several management roles.

Geoffrey came to AnxietyBC as a volunteer group leader for the LEAF program. He co-lead LEAF 5 times bringing his experiences coping with panic attacks and PTSD to the program. Geoffrey received his Communications Technicians certificate from VCC and worked in the telecommunications field holding several different positions: Communications Technician, Inside Plant Instructor - and then various roles in engineering: Planner, Project Management, and Manager of Installations. He also participated in the employees Closed Bond Credit Union, holding positions as Director, Secretary, and President of the board.

His own struggles with a lifetime of anxiety altered his path. After an extensive search he found out about the Anxiety disorders clinic at UBC where he participated in a one on one CBT treatment program. After treatment he felt a desire to give back and as such had been volunteering with AnxietyBC in a peer to peer managing panic disorder group. This lead to a full time position with the organization, and his current role is as the Executive Director. He feels fortunate to be able to share his story.

We are excited to have these gentlemen join our meeting which promises to be very interesting and informative.
